Course Aims

Scientific computing is a discipline that focuses on solving scienti???c problems using computer-based approaches. The emphasis is placed upon utilizing software packages and the development of programming skills to address mathematical, physical, and materials engineering challenges. This course covers problem formulation, simulations and modelling, mathematical and numerical analysis, visualisation through graphics, introductory programming, and the utilization of artificial intelligence.

In this course, students will learn how to use Python programming and AI for solving scientific problems. Prior programming experience is not required, as the emphasis of the course is on problem-solving rather than programming. The course targets scienti???c problems in physics and materials engineering, aiming to introducing the use of computers in science to students who may need such skills in the pursuit of a major in Applied Physics or Materials Engineering.
