Hybrid Modelling and Sampling-Based Switching Control for Dc-DC Converters

Abstract

Power electronic converters are solid-state electronic devices that transform electrical power from one form (usually unregulated) to another regulated one through the use of semiconductor devices operating as power switches. Most typical analysis and synthesis techniques employed in industry for control of power electronic converters involve considerable approximation and simplification. Although these techniques may be adequate in some cases, the controller performance is quite limited, and the design involves a lot of heuristic procedures, which lack theoretical guarantees. In this talk, using recently developed hybrid systems and control theory, new hybrid models for several types of DC-DC converters are introduced. Based on this, two novel samplingbased switching control methods are developed. With these new control approaches, no PWM is required, and the switching frequency can be controlled as well. Numerical simulations and experimental study are provided to show the effectiveness and merits of the proposed approaches.
