CityU's Faculty of Business (FB) has been accredited by AACSB International (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) for its high quality, mission-driven teaching and research activities. The Faculty is among the first batch of business schools to be accredited after AACSB adopted new international accreditation standards in 2003. To date, CityU is the third university in the Greater China area to have gained this prestigious recognition.
CityU's Office for Chinese Management Development hosted the “2004 EAMSA Annual Conference – Harmony v Conflict: Euro-Asian Management in a Turbulent Era”, 3-6 November. Over 60 scholars and practitioners from 18 countries came together to address how a harmonious business environment can be created and managed successfully in an increasingly turbulent business environment.
On 20 November, CityU alumni from different fields of studies and years of graduation rejoined at the University to celebrate the 20th anniversary. They were unified in their support for the alma mater at the Alumni Banquet and shared the insights of a successful leader at the Leaders’ Forum.
This summer, 70 students took part in the summer internship programme, organized by the Student Development Services Career Centre. They have gained valuable experience working in 22 companies in Beijing and Shanghai.
CityU's Student Mentoring (SMS) and Supplemental Instruction (SI) Schemes empower senior students to enhance first-year students' learning skills and to boost their motivation. Professor Edmond Ko, CityU Vice-President (Undergraduate Education), presented certificates to SI and SMS supervisory staff, and student mentors and leaders on 27 May, 2004.
About 100 students were present at the 21 April symposium on China's impact on Hong Kong's economy and job market. The event was organized by the Asia-Pacific Student Entrepreneurship Society (ASES) as a way to help students understand and prepare for their future careers.
The Admissions Office (ADMO), the Faculty of Business (FB) and the School of Graduate Studies joined hands to participate in the ninth China International Education Exhibition Tour (CIEET), from 21 February to 3 March, in Beijing, Shanghai, and Xiamen. The Tour has successfully fulfilled its mission of broadening the University's student recruitment base and developing long-term networks in the mainland.
In his first public speech since retirement less than three months ago, Mr Tsang Yam Pui, former Commissioner of Hong Kong Police, told an audience of some 300 business executives on 26 February that a leader requires "wisdom, courage and heart."
The School of Continuing and Professional Education (SCOPE) and the Faculty of Business participated in the Education and Careers Expo, held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 19 to 22 February. The Expo showcased a wide range of CityU's continuing education and business Master's degree programmes to meet the market's growing demands.
SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) tend to seek short-term survival strategies in an economic downturn. However, such strategies are not good enough to support a business in the long term.
