Prof. Edwin Tso Shared Insights on AI for Sustainability at the HKIE CA Division International Summit 2024/25

Prof. Edwin Tso, Associate Dean (Internationalisation and Outreach) of the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), participated in the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Control, Automation & Instrumentation (CA) Division 2024/25 International Summit, held on 13 May 2025 at Hong Kong Metropolitan University. Themed “CA Engineers Linking AI, Low Altitude Economy and New Quality Productive Forces”, the summit brought together leading engineers, researchers, and industry experts to explore the intersection of innovation, technology, and sustainable development.

Prof. Tso was honoured to take part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside distinguished guests including Ir Prof. Sun Song, JP, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau (ITIB); Mr. Roger Wong, JP, Director of Water Supplies Department (WSD); Ir Raymond Poon, JP, Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD); Ir Prof. Louis Lock, Chairman of the HKIE CA Division; Ir Dr Hon Lo, GBS, MH, JP, Member of the Legislative Council for the Engineering Constituency; Ir Rupert Leung, Vice President of the HKIE; and Ir Prof. C.C. Chan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, among other esteemed professionals.

At the summit, Prof. Tso delivered a presentation on leveraging artificial intelligence for sustainability, showcasing how AI-powered solutions can play a pivotal role in addressing pressing environmental challenges. He shared valuable insights from his ongoing research, which focuses on deploying AI technologies to enhance energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and support the development of sustainable urban systems.

The summit served as a dynamic platform for engaging discussions on the role of engineering and emerging technologies in shaping a greener and more innovative future. Prof. Tso’s participation underscores SEE’s ongoing commitment to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and advancing research that responds to global environmental and energy challenges.
