We are pleased to announce that the Senate of the City University of Hong Kong approved at its meeting held on 31 May 2011 the retitling of the "Department of Building and Construction 建築系" to the "Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering 土木及建築工程系" with effect from 1 July 2011.

The new title embraces all the academic offerings and research disciplines of our department. The scope of "Civil Engineering" covers Structural, Geotechnical and Construction Engineering. "Architectural Engineering" refers to the application of engineering principles and technology to building design and construction. It includes disciplines like Building Services Engineering, Construction Management, Surveying, and Architectural Studies.

The new title signifies our commitment in civil engineering and architectural engineering research and professional education.
