Energy and Environment 
The Council of CityU has approved the establishment of the first School of Energy and Environment in Hong Kong to lead teaching and research tackling two of the most pressing issues of our time. The new school will focus on developing high-calibre students to cater to the increasing need for professionals in these two fields, and undertake top-notch research to develop applications that serve the needs of society.

Presidential talk 
Professor Way Kuo, CityU President, will share his research findings on university research and teaching with CityU alumni during his talk, Teaching and Research: Dispelling Common Misconceptions, on 14 July. The discussion ties in with Professor Kuo’s latest publication, Clarifying Some Myths of Teaching and Research, the royalties of which Professor Kuo will donate for scholarships.

Solar forum  
The CityU Business and Industrial Club of the Knowledge Transfer Office will host the Emerging Technologies Forum: Advances in Solar Energy and System on 16 July in the Multi-media Conference Room. Professor Henry Chung Shu-hung, Associate Dean of College of Science and Engineering, will deliver a presentation on the Practical Challenges for Micro-grid PV Inverters.

International competition 
Gabriel Gao Jiabei, the leader of CityU’s team at the International Remote Operated Vehicle Contest held at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Cape Cod, US, was selected as one of the three Most Valuable Players in acknowledgement of his technical, leadership and presentation skills. Around 350 students in 52 teams from five countries took part in the contest. Gabriel is a Year 1 student from the Department of Electronic Engineering.
