Naming ceremony
In appreciation of the support and generous donation to the University by Sir Gordon Wu Ying-sheung, Chairman of Hopewell Holdings Limited, the University will name Hall 9 as Sir Gordon and Lady Ivy Wu Hall. A naming ceremony will be held on 18 April. Sir Gordon served the University as Council Chairman in 2004–2006, and he was conferred with an Honorary Doctor of Social Science in 2007. Sir Gordon and Lady Ivy Wu actively participate in public service and contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of Hong Kong and the region.

City Literary Festival
The Annual City Literary Festival will be held from 13–14 April, with an opening ceremony and talks scheduled for 13 April. The key speakers will be the renowned writers Ms Mao JianMr Perry LamProfessor Huang ZipingProfessor Chang Hsiao-hungProfessor Chen Zishan, Ms Zhang YiheMr Zhang Wei, Professor Jiau TungProfessor Yang Yang, Mr Liu Wai-tongMr Yan Lianke and Professor Cheng Chou-yu. Parallel discussion sessions on different literary genres will be held in the afternoon on the same day.

On 14 April, the writers will hold a dialogue for local secondary teachers at CityU in conjunction with the Education Bureau. A workshop on new poems will be held in the afternoon on the same day. President's lecture series
Professor Lu Jian
, Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Dean of the College of Science and Engineering, will deliver a lecture in the President's Lecture Series on 19 April. His talk is titled "Achieving high strength and high ductility nanomaterials: concept, properties and applications". Professor Lu is a renowned expert in advanced structural materials and solid mechanics.

 

Secondary school visit
More than 150 secondary school teachers and students will enhance their understanding of the University at the "Shaping Your Future: a Lifetime of Difference" programme on 21 April. They will attend talks by Professor Way Kuo, University President, and prominent figures from the public and commercial sectors. In addition, they will visit research and teaching facilities and attend a careers talk given by college/school representatives.

 

Figure painting exhibition   
The Chinese Civilisation Centre (CCIV) is holding an exhibition titled "The Vigour of Life" featuring the figure paintings of Mr Wang Hongxi and Ms Pan Baozhu at CityU Gallery from now to 13 May. An opening ceremony was held on 30 March, which was officiated by Mr Wang, Ms Pan, Ms Chik Kwok-wah, a renowned calligrapher and the Director of the China Calligrapher Association, and Professor Cheng Pei-kai, Director of CCIV.

 

Kudos
The School of Law’s mooting team has won the 9th Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot. The oral hearings of the moot were held at CityU and the Hong Kong Productivity Council from 19–25 March. The winning mooters are Jessica Chow Yat-sau, JD student; Jason Lau Chirk-yen, LLM student; and Harprabdeep Singh Brar, Lavesh Prakash Kirpalani and Chan Yin-wai, LLB students. They were coached by Mr Rajesh Sharma, Assistant Professor, and Eric Ng, JD student, assisted in the training. The moot was organised by the Vis East Moot Foundation Limited, co-sponsored by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators East Asia Branch, and hosted by CityU. Over 90 teams from 26 countries and regions participated, including students from the Harvard Law School, Georgetown University Law Center, Bond University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the University of Hong Kong.
                  
Eason Tsang Ka-wai, a Year 2 photographer and photographic artist in the School of Creative Media, has won the Silver Award and Hong Kong Best Award in a global design competition organised by the Hong Kong Designers Association.
