AC3 opening
The completion of Academic 3 (AC3) opens a new chapter for the University, helping CityU to excel in its professional education and problem-driven research. An official opening ceremony will be held on 6 May to celebrate CityU's new building, now the tallest structure on campus.

 

Sexual harassment
The Committee Against Sexual Harassment (CASH) of the University is co-organising the "S for Anti-Sexual Harassment Campaign" with Anti-480, Anti-sexual Violence Resource Center of the Association Concerning Sexual Violence Against Women on the University campus through to 10 April. The aim is to promote awareness about sexual harassment among staff and students. There are a number of on-going activities such as BodyLogue, a multi-media art exhibition with performances aiming at raising awareness of gender-based violence. The exhibition runs from 4–10 April in the Purple Zone, Academic 1. There will also be a Kick-off Ceremony in the Purple Zone, Academic 1 at 2:00pm on 8 April with Dr York Chow Yat-ngok, Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission, officiating, and a series of programmes aiming at promoting gender equality. Staff and students are welcome to attend the ceremony and win an iPad mini with an anti-sexual harassment slogan in the prize draw.

 

President's lectures
Professor Kim Jeong-bon, Chair Professor and Head of the Department of Accountancy, will deliver the next talk in the President's Lecture Series on 23 April. In his talk, titled "Humble Accounting, Institutional Infrastructure, and Stock Price Crash Risk", Professor Kim will discuss how humble accounting is associated with human nature and the functioning of our society and economy. He will also present evidence for how humble accounting reduces the risk of a stock price crash.

 

International ICT Expo
CityU will feature 13 research projects at the International ICT Expo on 13–16 April at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. These projects showcase outstanding CityU information and communications technology research with high application value.

 

Southeast Asia Cultural Festival
The Southeast Asia Research Centre (SEARC), in collaboration with consulates from the region in Hong Kong, will host the Southeast Asia Cultural Festival from 18–21 April on campus. The event aims to highlight diverse and fascinating societies in Southeast Asia with a writers' forum, a cinema series, culinary delicacies, and other cultural events such as traditional dances and various musical forms. This event — the largest such festival ever to be held at a Hong Kong university — is open to students and faculty from CityU and also to the wider community. Details of the festival will be announced on the SEARC website soon.

 

Secondary school visit
More than 170 secondary school teachers and students will enhance their understanding of the University at the "Shaping Your Future: a Lifetime of Difference" programme on 20 April. They will attend talks by Professor Way Kuo, University President, and prominent figures from various sectors including Mr Sunny Cheung Yiu-tong, Chief Executive Officer of Octopus Holdings Limited, Ms Gilly Wong Fung-han, Chief Executive of the Consumer Council, Ms Denise Cheung Pui-yee, President of Asia Pacific of Money Concepts (Asia) Holdings Limited, Ms Yu Chui-yee, a wheelchair fencing athlete, the lyricist Mr Roy Lin Rixi, founder of the magazine Black Paper, and CityU alumna Ms Heiward Mak Hei-yan, a film director and screenwriter. In addition, the students will visit research and teaching facilities and attend a talk given by college/school representatives on CityU's courses, future careers and study pathways.

 

Career Fair
The first Career Fair at CityU, from 10–11 April, serves as a platform for students to gain market information and job opportunities from industry professionals and company representatives. Prospective employers from the public and private sectors and industry practitioners will introduce their industrial prospects and entry qualifications at the 2-day event.

 

Chinese painting exhibition
The Chinese Civilisation Centre will hold an exhibition titled "The Chinese Paintings by Lin Haizhong" from 11 April–26 May at the Singing Waves Gallery. Also known as Linquan Jushi (Lay Buddhist Linquan), Professor Lin is a doctoral tutor and programme leader for the integrated Chinese painting major in the Department of Chinese Painting at the China Academy of Art, where he is also Vice-Director of the Centre for Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Connoisseurship. Professor Lin will conduct a live performance at the opening ceremony on 10 April.

 

Kudos
Candy Chu Lam-hang, a Year 2 student from the Department of Biology and Chemistry, won the 1st Runner-Up and the Video Favourite Award of FameLab Hong Kong 2013. Her topic for the Video Favourite Award was "Blood Clotting 101"; for the grand final, it was "Lesson from Nature". FameLab, a presentation competition organised by the British Council, encourages young scientists to inspire the public imagination with a vision of science in the 21st century.
