2015 CityU Discovery Festival 
The festival, which runs from 10 to 12 March, is a celebration of discovery, innovation and creativity by CityU students and staff. The Honourable Lam Woon-kwong, GBS, JP, Convenor of the Non-Official Members of the Executive Council, and Ms Mabel Cheung Yuen-ting, an acclaimed film director and producer, will be the official guests at the opening ceremony on 10 March. Ms Cheung will share her discovery experiences as well.

The festival consists of two main sections. The first one is the Majors and Minors Fair, organised by the Colleges and Schools. They will provide informative references about undergraduate majors and minors for Year 1 students. Two talks scheduled on 5 and 6 March will act as a good face-to-face platform for Year 1 students to receive advice from faculty, senior students and industry representatives on making academic decisions.

The second section, Learning&Discovery@CityU, will take place between 10 and 12 March. Teachers and students will share experiences and discoveries related to the Discovery-enriched Curriculum (DEC) through exhibits and sharing sessions. Participants can learn about “DEC 2.0”, intellectual property, entrepreneurship and how Innovation Commons can help them develop creative ideas. New appointment
Professor Michael Reichel has been appointed as Chair Professor of Veterinary Medicine and concurrently as Acting Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM). Professor Reichel has substantial professional experience in both government service and private industry and was Professor and Chair of Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Adelaide.  He is also a co-Editor-in-Chief for the international journal Veterinary Parasitology. As Acting Dean of the SVM, Professor Reichel will lead the rapid development of the School into a world-class centre of excellence in the region in collaboration with Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

Re-appointment 
Professor Sam Kwong Tak-wu has been re-appointed as Head of the Department of Computer Science for the period 1 August 2015 to 31 August 2018.

Open Sky Campus
CityU is working to enhance opportunities for emerging media artists and produce urban media artworks as part of our contributions to Hong Kong’s public life and artistic culture. To this end, artworks by six CityU students on the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Media programme in the School of Creative Media will be displayed on the largest urban screen in the world from now until 31 March. The six pieces will be exhibited on the facade of the International Commerce Centre (ICC). The project, called Open Sky Campus, will be displayed from 1 to 3; 5 to 12; and 18 to 31 March at 19:45 and 21:00 daily. The best viewing spots will be from the P3 and P4 public terraces at the International Finance Centre Mall.

Creative media exhibition
An exciting media art exhibition will bring together emerging and established artists of international renown from the School of Creative Media. The exhibition “The Age of Experience” features 12 mix-media artworks created by faculty members. It will be held from 13 March to 22 April. A symposium titled “Art and Public Space” held alongside the exhibition on 12 March in the M6094 Future Cinema Studio, L6, in the Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre will offer insight on the change and challenge of the role of the arts in public space. Eight speakers will give lessons from history concerning current and future perspectives. The symposium is being held in association with the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. IP conference
An international conference and workshop featuring some of the world's leading authorities on student intellectual property management will be held on campus on 16 and 17 March. Titled “ Conference: Institutional Policy and Practice of Student Intellectual Property Management in Hong Kong Higher Education”, it will offer a forum for invited experts to present their experiences, thoughts, and recommendations for developing and implementing policies governing student intellectual property. The workshop, on the following day, will explore a variety of particular problem cases that present challenges to student intellectual property management. Funded by the University Grants Committee, the event is organised by the Center for East Asian and Comparative Philosophy, Department of Public Policy, the Office of Education Development and Gateway Education and the Knowledge Transfer Office. Art exhibition
A collection of paintings by Professor Chao Shao An, one of the most outstanding figures in contemporary Chinese art, is on show on campus from 3 to 31 March. Some of the 59 paintings in the “Exhibition of Chao Brothers' Collection: Chao Shao An's Art World” are being exhibited for the first time. As a renowned Lingnan painter, Professor Chao was adept at painting flowers, birds, insects, fish, animals, human figures and landscapes. He attained an impressive international reputation, in particular for his unparalleled talent for flower-and-bird paintings. He was born in 1905 in Guangzhou and died in Hong Kong in 1998. He made significant contributions to the promotion of Chinese painting and to the consolidation of the prestigious status of the Lingnan School of painting. The exhibition is being held at the Singing Waves Gallery from 10am to 7pm daily.

Books and City Series
The next installment of the on-going Books and City Series organised by the Library features a talk by the Korean scholar Dr Kang Kim Hyewon, Director of the Cultural Studies Centre of East Asia, in which she will share what she has discovered over the last two decades about Hong Kong films from a cultural perspective. The event takes place on 12 March.

Staff sports
The finals of the CityU Badminton & Table-tennis Tournaments jointly organised by Student Development Services (Physical Education Section) and the Human Resources Office will take place on 18 April. The deadline for applications is 6 March. There are four categories in the badminton events—individual: singles and doubles (staff/student/alumni); staff and student; family (parent-kid doubles/spouse doubles); and team (staff only). There are two categories for the table-tennis events—individual: singles and doubles (staff/student/alumni); and staff and student.
