New configuration of senior management
Professor H K Chang, University President, has announced a new configuration of senior management, one that will best position the University to face the challenges ahead. Effective from April 2006, Professor Richard Ho, Dean of Undergraduate Education, is re-titled Vice-President for Undergraduate Education; Professor Roderick Wong, Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, is re-titled Vice-President for Research/Dean of Graduate Studies; and Dr Ellen Ko, Director of Human Resources, is concurrently the Acting Vice-President for Administration, replacing Professor Y S Wong, the outgoing Vice-President for Administration.

Five-day work week
The Management Board (MB) has decided to follow the basic governing principles behind the government's proposed implementation of a five-day week for the Civil Service from 1 July 2006 onwards, and at the same time accommodate existing practice. This follows a decision by the Heads of Universities Committee on 9 February to endorse in principle this new arrangement. According to the MB, academic departments and administrative and academic units can arrange a five-day week, although essential services and education-related activities that take place on Saturdays will continue as normal. It is hoped that this arrangement will balance the need to maintain campus operations on Saturdays, while at the same time work towards the government's new initiative.

Provision of medical and dental services
In order to provide a healthier environment for all students, the Management Board has endorsed a recommendation to extend the provision of on-campus medical and dental services to UGC-funded part-time and non-UGC-funded full-time and part-time students admitted to award-bearing programmes at CityU and Community College of CityU. This new scheme will start in the 200607 academic year. To absorb the extra students, the University will employ two extra medical doctors, two nurses and a dentist and convert the existing medical and dental clinics. The funding for the new medical provision will be met by the University's central funds.

Chinese titles for Teaching Fellows
The proposed Chinese titles of ( 疭 ヴ 量 畍 ) and ( 藹  疭 ヴ 量 畍 ) for the positions of Teaching Fellow and Senior Teaching Fellow have been approved by the Management Board.

This event puts Form 5 and 6 students in touch with professionals from marine industries and conservation and helps develop technical, critical thinking and teamwork skills. Entrants come from 16 local secondary schools and the final competition will be held on 9 April at CityU's swimming pool.
