Dr Michael Leung Kin-man has established an illustrious career in the information technology and banking sectors, distinguished by his leadership and executive roles in prominent multinational corporations.

Beyond his corporate achievements, Dr Leung’s expertise and insight have led to numerous invitations to serve in various public roles over the years. However, his commitment extends far beyond personal accolades. He is dedicated to enriching both the industry and society by generously sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience. In recognition of his contributions to innovation and technology, finance, education, and social welfare sectors, he was awarded the Medal of Honour by the HKSAR Government.

At the pinnacle of his service, Dr Leung was engaged in over ten public positions simultaneously, while serving as an Adjunct Professor and Chairman of the Departmental Advisory Committee in the Department of Information Systems at CityUHK for many years. His invaluable guidance on strategic direction, curriculum suitability, course relevance, programme development, and the evolving needs of the industries has significantly influenced the Department’s growth and adaptability, fostering a dynamic learning environment. Through these roles, he has developed a close connection with the University and gained a profound understanding of its vision and mission.

Also noteworthy is Dr Leung’s service as a member of Cyberport’s Board and several of its committees – particularly his involvement in its incubation and entrepreneurship programmes, his service on VTC’s Banking and Finance Training Board and working groups, and HK Institute of Bankers’ Professional Standard and Examination Board, among others.

A few years ago, Dr Leung further solidified this bond with CityUHK by pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) study, where he explored innovative solutions for customer value and risk assessments in digital and virtual banks, and applied his research findings to industry practice afterwards. This journey has deepened his appreciation of the University’s commitment to excellence in education and groundbreaking research – values that are reflected in CityUHK’s impressive global rankings. Inspired by the University’s success in delivering professional education and fostering innovation, Dr Leung resolved to support its mission to benefit society.

In 2024, when CityUHK launched the University-wide Endowment Campaign, Dr Leung responded with unwavering support. He made a generous donation to establish the “Dr & Mrs Michael K.M. Leung Endowed Scholarship”, aimed at recognising students from the Department of Information Systems who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and promising potential. Through this initiative, he aspires to empower the next generations to pursue their dreams and reach their full potential, ultimately benefiting the industry of information systems as a whole. Dr Leung hopes that these leaders and talents of tomorrow will drive technological progress and tackle the complex challenges faced by the industry. He also encourages youngsters to remain curious about the world, believing that this curiosity fuels their motivation for lifelong learning.
