The misuse and overuse of antibiotics is exacerbating the development of antimicrobial-resistance (AMR), claiming 700,000 human lives worldwide annually. It is estimated that 10 million people will die due to AMR in 2050. Using the systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX) methods, a novel aptamer that targets specific antibiotics can be developed and provide molecular biorecognition in an aptamer-based biosensor (aptasensor) . Our project aims to facilitate the detection of antibiotics and monitor the level of antibiotics in the environment by developing a low-cost, rapid, user-friendly and portable aptasensor.
