Famchat provides a social platform for the elderly.
The number of older people with unmet care and support needs has increased substantially, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. While social distancing is necessary to reduce the spread of the disease, it makes social participation challenging. Socialising is a basic human need, and studies show that it contributes to better physical and emotional health.
This project aims to provide a convenient digital platform for the elderly to connect and build closer relationships with others and avoid being marginalised. The system is user-friendly and practical. Friends and relatives of the elderly, and even the social welfare organisations can send them greetings, messages and videos, thus addressing these previously unmet needs using a simple, accessible and affordable system.
