CityU’s success rate in the 2005-06 Competitive Earmarked Research Grant (CERG) exercise, supported by the Research Grants Council , is ranked 2^nd among the eight local higher education institutions. The University was ranked 3^rd last year. 

 

This year, a total of 104 CityU research projects have been granted HK$48.9 million, higher than last year’s HK$46.5million. The commendable results once again demonstrate CityU’s relentless efforts in achieving excellence in applied research.

 

Three large grants worth over HK$1 million each have been awarded to the University; two of them went to the Department of Biology and Chemistry (BCH), and the third went to the Department of Electronic and Engineering (EE).

 

“Cardiovascular Toxicity of Carbaryl in Zebrafish Embryos”, a project by BCH Associate Professor Dr Cheng Shuk-han, received funding of HK$1,947,828, the largest CERG ever awarded to a CityU project and the largest allocation in the Biology and Medicine Panel in this year’s CERG exercise. 

 

The EE project “Optimizing the Advanced Manufacturing Processes and Materials for the Reliable Fabrication of Polymer Photonic Devices” secured a grant of HK$1,110,132, the second largest in the Engineering Panel.
