Over 60 researchers from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Australia, the US and the UK, among others, discussed a range of relevant political, economic, social and cultural issues at the Asian Migration and the Global Asian Diasporas Conference from 6 to 7 September at City University of Hong Kong (CityU). The conference was jointly organised by CityU’s Southeast Asian Research Centre (SEARC), CityU’s Department of Asian and International Studies (AIS) and International Organization for Migration (IOM)

At a meeting during the conference Professor Way Kuo (left, small photo), President of CityU, and Ambassador William Lacy Swing (right, small photo), Ambassador of the United States and Director-General of IOM, discussed the possibility of organising an internship programme between CityU and the IOM. If the plan is confirmed, CityU students will have the opportunity to work as interns at IOM’s headquarters in Geneva.

Among the attendees at the conference were Mr Andrew Bruce, Regional Director of IOM, and Mrs Gloria Ko, IOM Hong Kong Head of Office, Professor Arthur Ellis, Provost of CityU, Professor Mark Thompson, Director of SEARC, Professor Paul Cammack, Head of AIS, Dr Chiara Formichi, Associate Director of SEARC, and Dr Chan Yuk-wah, Assistant Professor of AIS.
