The “Music Dreams Come True” concert on 16 November marked the grand finale of the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) Arts Festival 2016.

The concert was a collaboration between Ms Yao Jue, a renowned violinist, the CityU Philharmonic Orchestra (CityU PO) and the Hong Kong String Orchestra (HKSO).

CityU PO opened the concert with Greensleeves, a timeless classic expressing love and peace. HKSO then joined the CityU PO string section to perform the second piece, Tchaikovsky's Serenade in C major, Op. 48.

The concert reached its climax when Ms Yao joined the two orchestras to perform the iconic Butterfly Lovers’ Violin Concerto.

Mr Herman Hu Shao-ming, Council Chairman, said the concert offered a great opportunity for CityU students to perform with world-class professional musicians. The great performance marked the successful finale of this year’s CityU Arts Festival.

The festival, now in its second year, is an essential part of the University’s efforts to promote the arts. It kicked off on 20 October with performances by the CityU PO and the CityU Chinese Orchestra at the opening ceremony.

One of the highlights of ceremony was a performance of the Yellow River Piano Concerto by the CityU Philharmonic Orchestra and the well-known pianist Mr Zhang Peng.
