A HK$5 million donation awarded to City University of Hong Kong (CityU) by the Tin Ka Ping Foundation will promote moral education, Chinese culture, and integration with world civilisation.

Guests attending the donation ceremony on 5 June included Mr Sam Tin Hing-sin, Chairman of the Foundation Board; Mr Tin Wing-sin and Professor Kenneth Young, Directors of the Foundation Board; Mr David Day, Chief Executive of the Foundation; Professor Way Kuo, CityU President; Professor Matthew Lee Kwok-on, Vice-President (Development and External Relations); Professor Horace Ip Ho-shing, Vice-President (Student Affairs); and Ms Kathy Chan Yin-ling, Associate Vice-President (Development and Alumni Relations).

The Foundation was established in 1982 by the late Dr Tin Ka-ping with a mission of promoting cultural and educational development and improving the quality of education to boost China’s advancement. The Foundation is devoted to its charitable causes, in particular support for the education sector.

Dr Tin believed that “China’s future lies in education” and the Foundation aspired to promote education development, according to Mr Sam Tin Hing-sin. With the launch of the Government’s 8th Matching Grant Scheme, the Foundation hopes to maximise the University’s resources to promote Chinese culture and nurture talent for society.

Professor Kuo thanked again the late Dr Tin, Mr Sam Tin Hing-sin and the Foundation for their staunch support over the years. Further to last year’s HK$3 million donation, which was part of a generous gift from the Foundation to nine local higher education institutions, the University has received another HK$5 million from the Foundation.

The donation will be used by CityU to enhance the “Mainland Scholars Exchange Programme” and organise activities such as the “City Inheritance Programme” and “Servant Leadership Training Programme” that promote Chinese culture and service-learning experience and enhance cultural awareness among students.
