Professor Christine Huang Yi-hui, Chair Professor of Communication and Media and Associate Dean (Faculty and Research) of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at City University of Hong Kong (CityU), has been elected Fellow of the International Communication Association (ICA) in recognition of her distinguished scholarly achievements. She is the first Chinese female in the four places across the Strait to earn this accolade.

The acknowledgement is in recognition of her academic accomplishments in the communication discipline worldwide. Professor Huang is also the 8th Chinese person appointed Fellow of ICA since the Association’s establishment.

Professor Huang’s research contributions in cross-cultural communication, strategic communication management, risk communication in health and technology, and crisis communication, have earned her glowing global recognition.

“I would like to express my heartiest gratitude to my colleagues and students at CityU. Without their support, nothing would be possible,” said Professor Huang. 

She reminded young scholars to pursue personal goals with courage, determination and a childlike innocence, especially young females who might feel bound by social constraints. “Keep your curiosity alive. Curiosity drives the pursuit of knowledge. Listen to, and go by, your heart if you wish to achieve your dreams,” added Professor Huang.

Since its establishment in 1950, ICA is the first and largest academic association in the communication discipline, now with members in 80 countries/regions. An ICA fellowship is primarily a recognition for distinguished scholarly contributions to the broad field of communication. 

Scholarly achievement is the primary consideration for nomination to Fellow status while contributions in other sectors such as commerce, government and education, will also be taken into account. Around 230 scholars in the world have been awarded this honour so far.
