Professor Freddy Boey, CityU President, extended a warm welcome to all guests. He said that technology today has allowed students to learn faster than teachers can teach, so CityU encourages faculty and students to become more learning-centric rather than teaching-centric. “University life goes beyond merely passing exams. At CityU, we strive to ignite our students’ passion and curiosity, and we aim to educate them about the true meaning of success. Our goal is not only to impart knowledge, but also to provide opportunities for students to expand their horizons,” he added.

Professor Lee Chun-sing, Provost and Deputy President of CityU, highlighted the recent achievements and distinctive qualities of CityU. “In the QS World University Rankings 2024, CityU climbed to the 70th position, and in the recently released THE World University Rankings 2024, CityU rose to 82nd. We are proud to be a young and energetic university,” he said.

He also added that CityU offers various scholarships, provided primarily by Colleges, Schools and Departments, to recognise high-calibre students with outstanding academic achievements.

Professor Ray Cheung Chak-chung, Associate Provost (Digital Learning), facilitated the introduction of CityU distinctive academic programmes by College representatives, highlighting the exceptional qualities and unique features of the University's academic programmes and its diverse and enriching learning environment.

A sharing session by three CityU students highlighted CityU's commitment to encouraging students to develop a global vision, as it offers opportunities for overseas academic exchanges, internships and research in leading universities and companies worldwide.

“At CityU, I have had the opportunity to participate in overseas exchanges, which has not only made me more outgoing and open to meeting new friends but has also allowed me to learn different study methods and gain a deeper understanding of diverse cultures,” said Kelvin Wong Chi-kuen, an Electrical Engineering student, who participated in overseas exchange and internship programmes in the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, US and the University of Montpellier in France. “Upon returning to Hong Kong, I noticed that CityU has a diverse community of international students, and now I actively engage in various activities to connect with exchange students from overseas.”

Following the sharing session, Professor Cheung and Professor Isabel Yan Kit-ming, Associate Provost (Student Life), engaged in a meaningful dialogue with three secondary school principals. The discussion focused on collaboration between secondary schools and CityU, highlighting how these partnerships complement each other in enhancing the student learning experience.

The luncheon provided secondary school principals and teachers with information that will enable them to understand CityU’s latest developments and offer useful and timely advice to their students who are preparing for the JUPAS application.
