A delegation from the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau and the Bureau of Public Works of Shenzhen Municipality visits CityUHK for insights

A delegation from the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau and Bureau of Public Works of Shenzhen Municipality, along with three mainland universities, visits CityUHK on 19 December.

A delegation from the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau and the Bureau of Public Works of Shenzhen Municipality, along with representatives from three mainland universities, visited City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) on 19 December. The aim of the visit was to gain in-depth insights into CityUHK's campus planning, management and operations, providing a valuable reference and experience for future campus development in Shenzhen.

The delegation was led by Mr Wang Rujin, Deputy Secretary of the Education Working Committee of CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee and Member of the Party Leadership Group of the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau, and Mr Li Zhuo, Party Secretary and Director-General of the Bureau of Public Works of Shenzhen Municipality. The delegation members included representatives from the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau, the Bureau of Public Works of Shenzhen Municipality, the Harbin Institute of Technology Shenzhen, and Jinan University.

The delegation was warmly received by CityUHK representatives, including Professor Lu Chun, Vice-President (Mainland Strategy) of CityUHK and Executive President of CityUHK (Dongguan); Mr Cheng Junxiang, Associate Vice-President (Operation) of CityUHK (Dongguan); and Ms Sng Jing Li, Director of the Office of the President. Both parties exchanged views and shared their experience in various aspects of higher education.

Professor Lu stated that CityUHK strives for excellence in academics and research, with achievements that are internationally recognised. CityUHK was ranked 10th in Asia and 3rd in Hong Kong in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) 2025 Asia University Rankings, placing it in the top 1% of universities in Asia. Furthermore, 31 scholars from CityUHK were named Highly Cited Researchers 2024 by Clarivate. In terms of faculty size, the percentage of the world’s most Highly Cited Researchers ranks CityUHK first in Hong Kong for the ninth consecutive year, reflecting the significant impact and international recognition of its research team.

Additionally, Professor Lu introduced the latest developments in CityUHK (Dongguan), which was officially opened last September, further consolidating CityUHK's leading position in innovative education and talent development. It also marks a milestone in cooperation between Dongguan and Hong Kong in promoting higher education in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. He stated that CityUHK (Dongguan) will accelerate the construction of the second phase of the project, with initial plans to start the construction work in March this year.

CityUHK is dedicated to fostering inspirational, interactive and innovative learning. By creating a vibrant and inclusive campus, the University supports the holistic development of its students, fostering innovation and creativity.

Ms Catherine Siu Kit-yee, Director of Campus Development, introduced CityUHK's teaching and residential facilities, as well as the latest construction projects, including the Jockey Club One Health Tower, the CityUHK International Centre, and the Lee Shau Kee Student Residence Village in Whitehead, Ma On Shan.

Additionally, Ms Brenda Lai Fung-ming, Director of Facilities Management, shared insights on CityUHK's daily management and operations, campus services and emergency mechanisms, which provide an efficient, safe and modern teaching environment for the CityUHK community, enhancing the University's leading position as a global university and advancing the facilities management profession.

The delegation visited various facilities at CityUHK, including the Run Run Shaw Library, the moot court and trial room of the School of Law, the EMBA Association Executive Classroom of the College of Business, and the Indra and Harry Banga Gallery. They conducted an on-site inspection of CityUHK's campus planning and management, as well as the utilisation of facilities by students.
