The Bright Future Engineering Talent Hub of the College of Engineering at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) and Po Leung Kuk jointly organised an artificial intelligence (AI) robotics competition for the first time, with primary and secondary school students from Po Leung Kuk collaborating with CityUHK students across generations to spark innovation and develop their potential.

The competition, named "Little Forest Hero: AI Rescue Robot Challenge" combined technology, creativity and teamwork with the theme of forest fire rescue. The students designed and operated AI robots to simulate firefighting and rescue missions. Through various workshops, the students were exposed to, and learned about, AI. Another feature of the competition was the enhanced collaboration among primary, secondary and university students, fostering teamwork and inspiring their interest in technology and engineering.

The award ceremony was held on 5 April, with attendees including Professor Lee Chun-sing, Provost and Deputy President of CityUHK, Professor Chan Chi-hou, Vice-President (Community Engagement) of CityUHK, Professor Shek Chan-hung, Associate Dean of the College of Engineering and Advisor of the "Bright Future Engineering Talent Hub”, Professor Lam Heung-fai, Principal of the “Bright Future Engineering Talent Hub”, and Mrs Amanda T W LEE, JP, Chairman of Po Leung Kuk. Professor Lee said, "CityUHK has always been committed to nurturing and developing student talent, creating practical knowledge and driving society forward. Today, I am delighted to see primary, secondary and university students working together to use AI to save the 'forest'. This cross-generational knowledge transfer truly manifests CityUHK's mission."

During the event, students from CityUHK's Robocon Team took on the responsibility of training students from Po Leung Kuk Centenary Li Shiu Chung Memorial College. These secondary school leaders then guided primary school students in the competition, enabling them to learn about and experience the application of AI in the real world.
