CityU will confer six ardent supporters with Honorary Fellow titles

 

City University of Hong Kong (CityU) will bestow the title of Honorary Fellow on six distinguished persons in recognition of their distinctive contributions to the development of, and service to, the University. They are Mr Winfred Chan Hon-pun, Ms Shirley Chan Suk-ling, JP, Ms Dilys Chau Suet-fung, Dr Haywood Cheung, Professor Michael Kotlikoff and Ir Dr the Hon Lo Wai-kwok, SBS, BBS, MH, JP.
 
Mr Winfred Chan Hon-pun, Director of Happy Brave Trading Co Ltd & Whitby Sun Sun Ltd, is a successful entrepreneur with due diligence. Enthusiastic in supporting education institutions in the Greater China area, he has contributed to CityU’s development in a variety of ways. His generous donations have sponsored the University’s strategic initiatives and exchange scholarships, while his assistance has led to several significant donations recently. Mr Chan is a member of the Board of Governors and Honorary President of CityU Foundation, supporting the University’s development. He has also shared his valuable experience with students by being a life mentor of a Gateway Education course. In 2014, Lecture Theatre 18 was named “Mr & Mrs Chan Hon Pun Lecture Theatre” in appreciation of his benevolence towards the University. He is currently the Director of Buddha’s Light International Association World Headquarters, and a member and former President of Rotary Club of Shatin.
 
Ms Shirley Chan Suk-ling, Vice-Chairman of YGM Trading Ltd & Director of Yangtzekiang Garment Ltd, has extensive experience in management in the garment retail and wholesale business. She served as member of the Court and Council of CityU from 2010-2015, and has joined her family in supporting the development of CityU over the years. In particular, she gave valuable advice on the branding and image of the University when she served on the Community Relations Committee under the Council. Ms Chan is active in public services as well. She is currently the 1st Vice-President of the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong, a member of the Advisory Group on Implementation of Fashion Initiatives and Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Chairman Emeritus of Hong Kong Brand Development Council and Founder of SADS HK Foundation. She is the former Vice-Chairman of the Hong Kong Retail Management Association, and a former member of the Hong Kong Tourism Board and Board of the Ocean Park Corporation.
 
Ms Dilys Chau Suet-fung, Partner of Ernst & Young, has solid experience in assurance and advisory business services and has a number of professional qualifications. She obtained a BA (Hons) degree in Accountancy from CityU, and has been a supportive alumna ever since. Ms Chau was a former Court and Council member of the University, serving on a number of committees under the Council, and is now a Vice-Chairman of CityU Eminence Society, a senior alumni association. She is currently an Adjunct Professor of CityU’s Department of Accountancy. She received the CityU Chapter Honoree Award of the Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter in 2011/12 and Distinguished Alumni Award in 2011. She is a practising member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).She is currently the Chairman of the Association of Christian Accountants and a former President of ACCA Hong Kong. She also actively serves as an independent member in different roles for the HKSAR government, including the Education Commission and Quality Education Fund Steering Committee. She is also a member of the current Election Committee of the HKSAR Government, representing the Accountancy Subsector.
 
Dr Haywood Cheung, Chairman and Executive Director of Target Insurance (Holdings) Limited, is an expert in the finance sector with over 30 years’ experiences in metals trading, securities and futures brokerage and forex dealing in Hong Kong. He is the Permanent Honorary President of the Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society. After graduating from CityU with a Doctor of Business Administration and Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA), he has been participating in alumni activities enthusiastically over the past few years to boost alumni support for the University. He is a member of the Alumni Advancement Committee under the CityU Foundation, and he has made generous donations to propel campus development. Being the Honorary Chairman of the EMBA Association Charity Trust, Dr Cheung takes the lead to solicit donations for promoting the EMBA programme and funding students through scholarships. In appreciation of his longstanding support, Lecture Theatre 13 was named after him as “Jennifer and Haywood Cheung Lecture Theatre”.
 
Professor Michael Kotlikoff, Provost of Cornell University and Former Dean of its College of Veterinary Medicine, has provided staunch support for collaboration with CityU in relation to the establishment of CityU’s School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM). By playing a crucial role in constructing a long-term strategic alliance between the two institutions, he has contributed to the academic exchange and implementation of CityU’s plans for building a world-class SVM, aiming at providing a centre of excellence for animal health in Asia. Professor Kotlikoff is an expert in Veterinary Medicine and Molecular Physiology. Since obtaining his Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris (VMD) degree from the University of Pennsylvania and PhD in Physiology from the University of California in the 1980’s, Professor Kotlikoff has been devoted to serving the scientific field through nurturing students and conducting research. Before taking up the Provost role in August 2015, he served as Dean of Veterinary Medicine of Cornell for about eight years and initiated a comprehensive strategic plan to enhance the College’s programmes in education, delivery of animal health care and research, leading it to become one of the world’s top vet schools.       
 
Dr Lo Wai-kwok is currently a member of the Legislative Council representing the Engineering Functional Constituency, and is currently Chairman of the Council’s Public Works Subcommittee under the Finance Committee. He was appointed a member of the CityU Council from 1991 to 1998 and has made significant contributions to the development of the University. Sharing selflessly his extensive experiences and expertise in engineering, Dr Lo has inspired students in various roles including Chairman of the Board of CityU Enterprises Limited, encouraging academic advancement and innopreneurship on campus. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering and Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management. Dr Lo has been dedicated to serving the community in various capacities, including Chairman of the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency, member of the Hong Kong Science Park Board of Directors, and Vice-Chairman of the Business and Professionals Alliance of Hong Kong. In 2015, he was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong SAR Government for his valuable contribution to society.
 
The six distinguished individuals will receive their fellowships at the Honorary Fellow Presentation Ceremony to be held in September 2016.
