CityUHK’s inaugural STEM Career Fair sparks innovation and networking opportunities

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) held its first-ever STEM Career Fair 2025 on 17 January. Jointly organised by the College of Computing, College of Engineering, College of Science and School of Energy and Environment, the fair emerged as the largest gathering of its kind at CityUHK. It encouraged students to explore their career aspiration and learn about the latest industry trends, and provided an excellent platform for employers to engage with budding talent in the realm of computing, energy and environment, engineering, science and technology.

71 companies across 16 industries, including construction, IT, electronics, utilities, engineering, retail, and testing and certification, participated in the fair, offering over 3,300 job opportunities for students. Noteworthy participants included Accenture, Arup, Biel Crystal (HK) Manufactory Limited, CATL from Fujian, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited, Gammon, Goertek from Shandong, HK Electric, HAECO, KPMG, Deloitte, NAMI, PCCW HKT, PwC, Siemens, SGS Hong Kong Limited, SmarTone and Towngas. Their presence and engaging booths enriched the fair.

A networking lunch brought together 120 industry partners, faculty members and distinguished guests, and fostered dialogues and connections that are bound to resonate after the fair's conclusion. Ir Eric Ma, President of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), shared his valuable insights on the industry development at the event, enriching the discussions and interactions.

Mr Dale Johnstone, Chief Information Security Officer at various major global organisations, presented another talk titled "Cyber-Physical Security Convergence: Security on Threats beyond Boundary", delving into the intricate world of cybersecurity. These and other seminars provided valuable insights into professional fields and enriched the event’s intellectual engagement.

The fair also featured captivating sessions focusing on industry development, such as "Career Talk: Become a Professional STEM Teacher", by Mr Chow Kan-hung, Senior Project Administration Officer (Science) from the Education Bureau of the HKSAR Government. Another notable session was "Women in Engineering", which featured several female leaders in the engineering sector sharing their experiences. This included Ir Dr Lilian Hui Ming-fong, a distinguished speaker from the HKIE and a former Assistant Director of the Buildings Department of the HKSAR Government, as well as representatives from Chun Wo Construction and Schindler.
