Prof. Yuntian Zhu’s team received a HK$7.36M Mainland Key Project Grant from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China

Prof. Yuntian Zhu’s team was awarded a Mainland grant at HKD$7.36M for the project titled "Probing the Deformation Mechanisms of Heterostructured Materials in a Wide Temperature Range Using In-situ Diffraction and Multiscale Simulation". Researchers from CityU (including Professors Xunli Wang, Yang Ren and Zhaoxuan WU), the Beijing University of Technology, and Nanjing University of Science and Technology are the main contributors of this project. This project studies the relationship between the heterostructure and mechanical behaviors using in-situ neutron and synchrotron diffractions to reveal the deformation mechanisms of heterostructured nanomaterials in a wide temperature range of 10-1773K. Particularly, it will reveal the effect of hetero-deformation induced (HDI) strengthening and strain hardening on the synergistic strength and ductility. It will be the first time to measure the back stress and forward stress in-situ, which is critical for us to understand the HDI stress evolution and to quantify the synergistic strengthening and its relationship with strain partitioning and interaction with interfaces. This is a Key Project Grant funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China.
