CityU Media Ambassador Programme

Student Development Services of CityU has launched the Media Ambassador Programme (MAP) to nurture a group of media ambassadors to advocate students’ contribution via social media and learning through producing promotional videos and recording radio programmes.

Miss Kay WONG, a MAP and Cultural Walker member studying Year 4 for the Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics and Finance, shared what she gained from participating in MAP.

“As one of the representatives of Cultural Walker, I have spent nearly two months on script-writing, video shooting, footage-selection, and video-editing to tell the best stories of Cultural Walker to the audience. During the production, our programme trainer provided a lot of advice on selecting suitable and attractive stories to achieve the promotional goals. It is encouraging that the video has received positive feedback from the audience. Besides, engaging in the series of publicity work has also given me a stronger sense of belonging to CityU and the programme.”

Kay hopes that the audience can feel her passion for ‘Cultural Walker’ in her video and the radio programme. She also reckons that the skills she has learnt from MAP will advance her career development in the future.

Another MAP and Cultural Walker member, Miss Dory TANG, who is studying Year 3 for the Bachelor of Social Sciences in Social and Behavioural Sciences also found the programme extremely meaningful and innovative.

“During the radio recording, I was grateful to share our experience in participating in ‘Cultural Walker’ with the audience. Yet it is never easy to pack all the stories in a twenty-minute radio programme. Thanks to the assistance of the programme trainer, she helped us consolidate our years' learning experience before recording, find out the key points and related examples, and engage the audience with picturesque descriptions. We shared interesting stories about cultural differences, hoping these would resonate with the audience.

The conversation with the DJ reminded me of the difficulties I encountered and my attempts to organise the activities. Different local tours were successfully held only with the joint efforts of our teammates. Looking back on the learning experience and fascinating stories, I was inspired to have the courage to try and to seek opportunities in challenges”.

Dory also encouraged students to seize every learning opportunity by actively joining different activities and unleashing their potential.

Eight episodes of the radio programme were broadcasted on Metro Radio, capturing over 52,000 audience every week. [from left to right] Ms Poyi FUNG (Trainer and DJ), Miss Kay WONG (Media Ambassador), Miss Dory TANG (Media Ambassador), Miss Joanne CHAN (DJ from Metro Radio).

Eight promotional videos were published on the Facebook page of Metro Broadcast with over 24,000 views.

Kay and Dory recorded the twenty-minute radio programme with DJs, to share their exciting learning experience and personal growth in ‘Cultural Walker’.
